How to Delete a Windows Bluetooth Stack
« on: June 07, 2012, 01:38:54 AM »
Beginning with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Microsoft incorporated a Bluetooth stack into the operating system. The Windows Bluetooth stack allows the operating system to automatically install required drivers for managing attached Bluetooth devices. In addition to the Windows Bluetooth stack, other product manufacturers offer Bluetooth stacks for managing specific hardware. You may decide to uninstall the Windows Bluetooth stack to avoid conflicts with a Bluetooth stack from another company.

Select \"Run\" from the Windows Start menu. Type \"sysdm.cpl\" into the text box and click \"OK.\"

Select the \"Hardware\" tab in the System Properties window.

Click the \"Device Manager\" button and click the plus sign next to Bluetooth Radios to show all Bluetooth devices installed.

Right click on each device listed and select \"Uninstall.\" Click \"OK\" to confirm each selection.

Close the Device Manager window. Click \"OK\" to apply the change and close the System Properties window.

Open Windows Explorer by double clicking \"My Computer\" or \"My Documents\" on the desktop. Type \"C;\\WINDOWS\\inf\" into the explorer address bar.

Right click on the file named \"Bth.inf\" and select \"Rename.\" Change the name of the file to \"Bth.inf.old.\"

Right click on the file named \"Bth.pnf\" and select \"Rename.\" Change the name of the file to \"Bth.pnf.old.\"

Close Windows Explorer and restart Windows to allow the changes to take effect.

Tips & Warnings

The steps provided only remove the Windows Bluetooth stack. To remove the Bluetooth stack from a different manufacturer, consult the support website for that specific company.
