This is actually the continuation of troubleshooting tips from here https://forum.3ptechies.com/laptops-desktop-mac-book-apple-desktop-general-hardware-and-softwares/a-z-on-laptop-and-desktop-troubleshooting-%28hardware-check%29/

This is too often experienced in older desktop and most poorly built laptop. this is to be noted that irrespective of your computer hardware spec / configuration it can not be said to be immuned from regular occurrences like  freezing, hanging, and host of others , while the reason for halting / freezing can easily be detected in most system others seems to be so complicated and as such needs advance troubleshooting.

What do I do when my system halt / freezes ?

While most system can just freeze at any internal others do not except you lunch a (heavy) program (mostly games) that uses more c.p.u power thereby generating more heat in this case we can easily spot the problem. now the reason why your computer freezes can range from :

New Drivers (esp. when not compatible) :
For example, if there is a failure / issue with your video (V.g.a) drivers your  computer could halt , freeze while playing a game , presenting a slide show or doing any major activity that uses video

for a fix to this confirm there isn't  any error in the Windows Device Manager by holding windows logo=r ==>> type in devmgmg.msc for a shortcut to device manager . This can be done by opening the Device Manager and verifying that no "Other Devices" are listed and no device has any exclamation mark or red X.

Next, make sure you have the latest drivers for all major devices in your computer (video, sound, modem, and network).
Heavy (tasking) Software & (Corrupt) Operating system :
When a virus attacks your computer it is advisable to update your anti - virus , scan your computer and fix all error caused by the virus . Also check if there was any recent software installed that could be causing the system error .

Excessive Heat & Hardware Failure .
This is of no doubt the main reason why  your computer is freezing  first confirm there isn't any recent hardware change / failure the do this:

Check that the cooling fans on the processor is working properly or not. So ensure that the fan is working fine and is clean. If not, then get the fan replaced. Also check for the additional fans on your computer casing/cabinet(if any).

you can further troubleshoot it by running  a disk scan which checks for disc errors and fixes the bad sectors (some examples are scandisk and checkdisk utilities in windows). If there are bad sectors which can not be repaired, then you need to replace your hard disc.

trying third party software like http://tune-up.com tune up utilities 2012 could as well be a perfect option for checking your hard drive for error
