SmartStay Ex is an easy to use and free app that implements one of the coolest features in Samsung Galaxy S3, the Smart Stay. The feature uses the front facing camera to detect whether the user is looking at the phone and if the user is, then Smart Stay makes sure the phone screen stays on so the user can continue to read or do whatever they were doing. If not, it?ll shut the screen off. It thus more accurately controls the screen based on how the user is using it and you can get rid of the annoying action of having to turn on the screen or touch the screen so that your screen stays on.

How to use Smart Stay Ex?
After install, open up the app and it will say initialization finished. Off and on the screen again as instructed and you will see an icon popping up. It means that the app has now started to monitor
If you have your display time out set at 30 sec, it will check at every 15 sec(half of the display time) . At each scan it will show you the last status of the scan. If it's successful it will maintain the status in the notification or else eye closed icon. When two fail checks consecutively during the intervel will cause the screen to turn off.
To make sure the scan is successful, you will need to keep a distance from the screen. distance such as the one shown in the picture below should work: Though when holding the phone straight in front of you might yield a better result. Don't get frustrated though if it doesn't work on your phone, it could be the viewing angle doesn't allow the camera to get a good facial picture of you.
