How to Make Your Kindle Fire Battery Life Longer

zeal

De Techizard
Your Kindle uses a Lithium-ion polymer battery which is more commonly called as the lithium polymer battery, or the Li-Poly battery in abbreviation.  A compelling advantage of Li-Poly cells is that they can be made into different shapes as almost however people like, and this can be very important to mobile electronic equipment like Kindle eReaders that are comparatively smaller, thinner, and lighter than a lot of household electronics.  These cells also have lighter weight than their predecessors of lithium-ion design, good reliability, adaptability to ruggedness as well as high energy density which gives greatly increased run times, i.e., total charge-discharge cycles before the cell capacity drops dramatically (today the typical lifespan charge-discharge cycles for most of Li-Poly cells are round 500 times).  Of course, everything has two sides, so do the Li-Poly batteries.  As to your Kindle Li-Poly battery, there are a few limitations and issues that should be looked at closely.  Let?s go through them one by one next.

Points to note

Overcharging your Kindle battery can cause an explosion or fire as all overcharged Li-Poly cells can behave like this.  Well, with that being said, don?t be panic for there is an overcharge safety circuit  in most of portable Li-Poly driven electronic devices like eReaders, cell phones, cameras, or laptop computers etc.  However, you should never neglect this overcharge issue in case the protection circuitry fails.  According to many sources, an overcharged Li-Poly battery will at least decrease its lifespan dramatically, let alone the possible hazards mentioned just now.  So what should I do here?  Basically, you should plan the charge time in advance, and then unplug your charger in time when charging your Kindle.  You don?t want to leave your Kindle being charged at home while going to visit your friends for the whole day.

How long should I charge my Kindle battery each time?  Short answer:  most of the time it will take 3 ~ 8 hours in accordance to a lot of user?s experience as long as you see that the light of Charge Indicator on the bottom edge of your Kindle turns green and at the same time the battery status indicator (Battery Icon) at the top of the display is fully filled up.  Of course, no one wants to keep a close eye on a static and boring charge process for even a few minutes, not to mention a few long hours.  For this reason, you need to learn and understand the capacity of your Kindle battery during its whole lifespan as this capacity will change with the passing of time, so does the length of charge time.  Typically, the best capacity performance of a new Li-Poly battery will be gradually reached at 100 ' 200 charge-discharge cycles.  After this middle age, the capacity gradually begins to reduce and the factors like discharge depth, the surrounding temperature as well as charging methods all contribute to the speed of capacity loss.  The deeper the cells are discharged, the warmer the environment temperature is, the shorter the battery?s lifespan.  Further more, the green light of Charge Indicator on your Kindle will no longer have much relationship to performance after the battery capacity has decreased much with age " a faded battery needs less time to charge.  From above discussion, you can see a similarity between a battery?s capacity and a human being?s strength -- they both change depending on many factors.  As a result, it takes your time and experience to know them well.  After you have a good understanding of your Kindle battery, you then know how long you should charge it to get the ?maximum? performance at different periods of its service time.

For Li-Poly cells, specially designed chargers are required to avoid fire or

explosion.  Therefore, you must always use the original charger for your Kindle unless the alternative charger is exactly the same model with the same technical parameters.

Deep-discharge characteristics of Li-Poly cells affect your Kindle battery life also.  If the voltage of a Li-Poly battery in use drops below about 3.0 V, it can no longer be charged to its full capacity later on and may have problems supporting the equipment with a stable voltage.  Like dealing with overcharge issue, there is deep-discharge protection circuitry in place on your Kindle.  Still, it is not a good idea to keep your Kindle battery low for long for it can cause your device a series of problems like connection issues, freezing of the whole device, and some charge issues etc.  As long as you see a low battery status signal (exclamatory mark) shown on your Kindle Battery Icon, try to charge it ASAP.  If you don?t use your Kindle for a while, make sure you charge the battery to 40% to 50% full before you power off and place it somewhere.

Temperature issue.  As being said above, the high temperature can do a big damage to the capacity of your Kindle Li-Poly battery to even a permanent degree.  Therefore, try to keep your machine in a cool environment under any circumstances, especially during charge.  Say, you should remove the case from your Kindle before charging it and also put the device in a cool place to do the job.

We?ve talked a lot about the battery itself above, and these are the basics in terms of extending a battery life.  The other thing we need to discuss here is how to properly use your Kindle to get a good battery life.  This may sound too easy; but there are still some battery-saving tricks to learn if you didn?t know before.  Again, let?s go through a few of them next.

Wireless functions.  Like happening with other mobile telecommunication devices such as cell phones, wireless connections, such as Wi-Fi , 3G, take a lot of power.  When you don?t have to use the wireless function doing some work like downloading books etc, turn it off.

Screen brightness.  This is a no-brainer thing.  So always try to decrease the brightness to a comfortable level when reading.  Rarely use full brightness for it?s not good for both your Kindle battery life and the display screen.

Apps on your Kindle.  These could be the sneaky killers of your Kindle battery life.  If you want to get a monitor software to see what is going on with all the apps on your reading device in terms of battery consumption, go to a software store asking for a special program for this.  Or you can download some free programs online like Badass Battery Monitor if you know how to do it.  Another alternative way, if you?re not good at using any software programs, just watch for the apps to find out how each of them does as to your battery usage.  Of course, this will take a little bit time and attention to understand each app on your machine.

At last but not least, after you find that you've done everything properly and still cannot charge your Kindle battery, or after a long time charge, the device can only run for a very short time, then you should consider to get a new battery for the old one is most probably out of life.  Enjoy your reading with a prolonged battery life!
