NEMA Registers 53,489 Displaced People In Delta And Anambra States

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the registration of 53, 489 Internally Displaced People (IDPS) in both Delta and Anambra States, where flood has ravaged a number of communities.
A statement signed by the head of NEMA?s public relations department, Mr Yushau Shuaib, stated that ?reliefs and rehabilitation officials of NEMA confirmed that 28,764 internally displaced people were registered in 11 camps of the 14 affected local government councils in the state.?

The statement also revealed that ?at least 11 pregnant women were successfully delivered of their babies in the camps with the help of paramedics.?

In Anambra State, the rescue officers are said to have confirmed the registration of 24, 721 IDPs in 21 established camps of the six affected local government councils, two of which were completely submerged.

A woman was reportedly delivered of a set of triplet in one of the camps, giving birth to three boys.

Meanwhile President Goodluck Jonathan has arrived some of the camps in Asaba, the Delta state capital as he continued his nationwide tour of some flood affected states.

The President is also expected to visit Anambra West, East and Ogbaru today as part of the inspection tour of the states affected by the current devastating floods across the country.
