How to Monetize a Blog and Make Money Online

If you desire to monetize your blog, you have to ask yourself some questions, starting with what type of blog is it, and do you have readers? If you are not getting any readers at your blog, you might put all your money-making plans on hold. Even if you got the pay-per-click program in existence with the highest rates, you cannot make money because there is no one to click the ads.        First, Generate traffic, and then worry about your blog monetizing.

If you have a sound stream of traffic, then making money from your blog depend on the type of blog. If you have a general interest blog, it is almost harder to make money from it than a specialized niche blog. Of course, if you have thousands of readers, you can run general advertising for things people usually required like credit cards, insurance and other general basic things.
If your blog is general interest, no one likes to come to your blog searching for cheap insurance, or a better rate on a credit card. They come to read how you burned the cookies, your thoughts on politics, and whatever you are blogging about.
If you pull in thousands of unique visitors in a whole month, you can make some money from such kinds of advertisers because a possible percentage of them will click the ads, and a small percentage of them might buy. This is a very hard way to monetize that requires and thousands of readers.
If your blog is smaller and more about a niche blog, you have more options. Many a people use Caf? Press or other sites that will print t-shirts, mugs and items for you. You can have a number of principles of your blog, logo, or some other great concepts you created printed on these items and link to them from your blog.
You can use the mother of blog money-makers, pay-per-click ads through Google and Yahoo. You have to look at the ads that show up, the click through rates, and your pricing. If the ads that are showing up are not targeted enough and are not getting good click through rates, you will get less per click than otherwise. So watch your blog statistics and make adjustments as you need.  Try to be keyword focused while writing your blog posts.
Affiliate marketing is one of the top ways to monetize a blog. If your blog is about weight losing, for instance, you can promote a product about weight loss or information that has an affiliate program. When people will fellow your link to that product and buy it, you get a commission. The more narrow your niche, the better it is to monetize your blog because the people coming there are for specific products and information.

Thanks for the info.

I think ads on a site should be conspicuous, but not so much as they tend to misdirect the attention of readers from the actual content. Using tons of ads just to make sure at least one gets clicked is a big no-no. I've always found it irritating when a site has too many pop-ups when I didn't even click on a single ad. Your blog's content should be quality to ensure readers would be coming back.
